Life Right Now

Home life the past few months have been unlike any other in my 43 years on earth. 12 years of marriage and this is the most time I’ve spent home with Justin. Being with the kids, that’s a different story- since we moved to Indonesia in 2019, I’ve been spending most of my time with them- sometimes too much… It’s the school holidays though, so I scratch my head on days when we have nothing to do. Although I find that what works best for my kids is by simply taking away their gadgets and allow boredom to kick in. After a few minutes of whining, they usually end up playing their board games, drawing, creating amazing things with their lego or singing to their heart’s content (mostly through the Hamilton soundtrack these days).

As much as I try to watch my temper, there are days that my patience is tested and my voic raises several notches higher. However, I often remind the kids that it’s their actions that disappointed me- not them. We move on from any misgivings pretty quickly because I tend to let go of grudges easily, it’s bad for the complexion (hurhur).

Just some snippets of our days here at home. After months of being locked up and trying to find my footing, it’s only now that I get to watch and participate in the kids’ days. Nevermind the floor I’ve been itching to vacuum and mop (Roque once told me, “why do you always need to mop the floor, Mommy? You’re always mopping!”).

Our days at home are certainly busy but we try to ask how each of them are- mostly missing their friends and going to the mall but they love staying home. I on the other hand get teary eyed thinking how it’s going to be when all this is over. Prayer and Bible Study Fellowship has definitely been a big help for me- although there is still a lot left for me to improve on-it’s a good start.

One day this is going to be over- can you imagine that day? how we’ll come out into the sun and laugh and hug and sing and dance and hold hands? I’m living for that day. It will be nothing like we’ve experienced before.

I am oftentimes nostalgic, longing for the day we can travel again and explore new things. It makes me sad when I think of places I’d like to go with the family but then again, we need to move on and thrive in this rather unusual situation we’re in. The kids have seen me struggling when this all started and i distinctly remember Raffi encouragingly sharin

Sometimes peace comes like the morning sun. Over the mountains and sometimes it comes in one simple, gentle breath, a fragile exhale working it’s way out of your tired body. Giving your weary heart just a little more room to breathe.
