What My Son has Taught Me During This Pandemic

A Photo Essay by Mommy Teresa.

They say the worst of times bring out the best in us. This has never been truer than with my son Max. And perhaps he doesn’t even know it. He may still be oblivious to the realities of the world and has no real sense of “worst” except when we are out of ice cream (lol). But in truth, he really aced this staying-at-home- thing. And did I learn so much from him.

When we all felt we needed to get out to be more active. He asked us to set up his basketball ring in the hallway. Every day, he dribbled away, made some shots, some went in, a lot didn’t, but he kept on playing. Everyday.

When we all started to feel restless and missed traveling. He took out a map and started pointing at places he’s been. And looked at photos that made him smile, like this one with his cousin Aya.

While a lot of us felt anxious about being more productive. He would shut his school books close and start to play with his marbles. Then went back to his homework and math (he loves math). Everyone just needs a break he says.

While we were all busy baking and cooking meals ala New York Times Cooking. He didn’t understand what all the fuss was about. He simply wanted pizza and vanilla ice cream. This time around though I taught him how to eat more veggies 😊

And most of all, what I learned from Max throughout this ordeal is to always find joy in everything. From the joy of dancing in the shower, singing before bedtime, reading his favorite book over and over. To happiness by clicking his wooden toy camera. Saying see you tomorrow in French “A demain!” My boy is not one bit sad that he couldn’t go out. As long as he sees the sun shining and moon beaming through our windows, he is happy. And marbles & trains of course. And pizza.
